Joomla! can be quite limited in the way it manages and structures content.
Taxonomies allow data to be structured in a multitude of ways and drives many exciting site features like sophisticated search.
We've built a Taxonomy Manger, a taxonomy component for Joomla which we're making available to the Joomla! Community. It allows you to structure your content in ways that are meaningful to you, not just sections and categories. We're also hoping to launch some front end components on top of the Taxonomy Manager to deliver some of the great features possible with sophisticated taxonomy.

What is it?
Taxonomy is an extension that allows you to link relevant areas of your site into groupings. On top of this, it also adds functionality to Joomla! search How it works
The Taxonomy extension works as a component. Create a vocabulary, and within that vocabulary create terms. Then simply assign articles to terms and the next time a user searches your site this hierarchy will be displayed along with normal results.
There is no limit to the depth of terms, so you can create them 2, 3 or as many as you like deep.
In addition, your users can choose to restrict their searches to within your taxonomy, or continue to search your entire site.
Requirements
- Ioncube loaders must be installed on your server
